Panjab University, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra sign MoU for academic, cultural collaboration
Panjab University and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, Guwahati, Assam, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic and cultural collaboration and promote research, preservation and dissemination of the life, philosophy, literature, art and cultural legacy of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva.
Chandigarh, October 1,2026: Panjab University and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, Guwahati, Assam, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic and cultural collaboration and promote research, preservation and dissemination of the life, philosophy, literature, art and cultural legacy of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva.
The MoU was signed by Prof Y.P. Verma, Registrar, Panjab University and Sudarsan Thakur, Secretary, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, in the presence of PU Vice Chancellor Prof Meenakshi Goyal, former Dean University Instructions Prof Yojna Rawat, Prof. Supreet Kaur, Prof. Anju Suri and other senior officials.
The three-year agreement between the Srimanta Sankardev Chair at Panjab University and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society provides for joint research, academic exchanges, lectures, workshops, seminars, publications and cultural programmes relating to Srimanta Sankaradeva, Sri Sri Madhavdeva, the Bhakti Movement and Assam’s cultural heritage.
The MoU also envisages an annual Assamese-Panjabi Cultural Festival at Panjab University and opportunities for Assamese artists to train students in traditional performing arts, including Ankiya Bhaona, Sattriya dance, Bargeet, folk dances, music and mask-making, subject to availability of funds.
The MoU will also facilitate educational visits to Assam by Panjab University students and research scholars and provide opportunities for student artists to participate in cultural programmes in Assam.
Prof Yojna Rawat, Professor of Hindi, will be the Nodal Coordinator for the Srimanta Sankardev Chair, while Mr Pradip Puzari, Project Coordinator, Cultural Mapping Project, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, will coordinate on behalf of the Kalakshetra Society.
The collaboration is aimed at creating greater opportunities for students, scholars, researchers and artists and promoting cultural exchange between Assam and Punjab.
