Panjab University Senate Member Naresh Gaur Raises Concerns Over Proposed SARAS Mela at PAU

Ludhiana, October 7, 2026: Panjab University senate member Naresh Gaur has sent a representation to Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana regarding proposed conduct of SARAS Mela at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
In his representation, he wrote: “Punjab Agricultural University is a premier educational and research institution, and its campus is primarily meant for education, agricultural research, innovation and related academic activities. The academic and research environment of the University deserves to be protected and maintained.
A large public event such as the SARAS Mela is expected to attract a substantial number of visitors and vehicles. This may lead to traffic congestion, security concerns, pressure on campus infrastructure and disruption of the normal academic and research activities of the University.”
Adding, he said, “I fully appreciate the objectives of the SARAS Mela, particularly the promotion of rural artisans, self-help groups, handicrafts and rural livelihoods. However, I respectfully submit that such a large public event may be organised at a suitable alternative venue in Ludhiana which has adequate space and infrastructure for public gatherings.”
Further, Gaur wrote: “Being a resident of Ludhiana and also a Senate Member of Panjab University, Chandigarh, I request your good office to kindly reconsider the proposed venue and take appropriate steps to ensure that the academic and research character of Punjab Agricultural University is not adversely affected.”
He hoped that his representation would receive due consideration in the larger public, academic and institutional interest.
