Panjab University Organises Special Lecture on Importance of Criminology in Social Work
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised special lecture on “Importance of Criminology in Social Work” Organised at The Centre for Social as part of the 7th National Social Work Week, based on the theme “Social Work: Strengthening Minds, Strengthening Families.”
Chandigarh, August 14, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised special lecture on “Importance of Criminology in Social Work” Organised at The Centre for Social as part of the 7th National Social Work Week, based on the theme “Social Work: Strengthening Minds, Strengthening Families.”
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Nandkishor S. Bhagat, Head, Department of Criminology and Correctional Administration, Athawale College of Social Work, Bhandara, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. Dr.Gaurav Gaur, Associate Professor, Centre for Social Work, warmly welcomed the expert speaker.
Dr. Bhagat highlighted the relevance of criminology in social work, different forms of criminal offences, changing social needs, and contemporary approaches to crime prevention and rehabilitation. He emphasised the role of social workers in correctional settings, including psychosocial support, rehabilitation, reintegration and addressing the needs of individuals in correctional institutions.
The lecture also highlighted the importance of Police– Public Relations and collaboration among social workers, police, correctional institutions and communities for effective crime prevention and rehabilitation.
Prof. Monica Munjial Singh, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work, expressed her gratitude to Dr.Bhagat for sharing his insightful knowledge with the students and faculty members.
