Panjab University Organises National Seminar on Srimanta Sankardev’s Enduring Legacy

Chandigarh, September 29, 2025: The Srimanta Sankardev Chair, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today hosted a One-Day National Seminar on “Srimanta Sankardev: The Saint, Scholar, and Social Reformer”. 

The seminar provided a vital platform for academic exchange, drawing participation from scholars, researchers, and academicians across the country to discuss the 15th-century saint’s life, philosophy, and reformist ideals. The seminar, was attended by distinguished scholars, faculty, and students. 

The inaugural session was graced by the Prof. Yojna Rawat as Guest of Honour. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Chandan Kumar Sarma (Dibrugarh University, Assam). Earlier, the session commenced with the Panjab University Anthem, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Supreet Kaur (Coordinator, Srimanta Sankardev Chair), who also paid homage to the late singer Zubeen Garg.

In the technical sessions, eminent speakers including Prof. Ratnottama Das (University of Delhi), Dr. Arunima Das (University of Delhi), Dr. Jadab Borah (Dibrugarh University), and Dr. Karabi Devi (Nagaon University), offered insights into Sankardev’s vast contributions to literature, performing arts, social reform, and devotional traditions. Afternoon sessions witnessed faculty and research scholars presenting papers on themes such as Ankiya Bhaona, Sattriya Dance, and Sankardev’s role in cultural renaissance and social empowerment.
