Chandigarh, September 25, 2023: Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a special lecture in hybrid mode by Professor Sanjay Srivastava, Professor of Political Science at BHU and currently the Vice Chancellor of Bihar Central University. Held at HRDC, Panjab University, the lecture was on ‘Analysing India’s G 20 Diplomacy’. Professor Srivastava at the outset underlined the relevance of G 20. He hailed it as a great initiative by the great nations of the world including India, currently heading the group, for ensuring the following for facilitating the global governance, ensuring informal decision making. African Union has been the latest entry thanks to the initiative of Bharat. The Delhi Declaration issued with every member concurrence underlined India’s growing clout in the international order by virtue of its glorious record in contributing to the global peace and harmony and also being the 5th largest economy and the largest democracy in the world. India’s success in Chandrayaan mission at the time of the conference and its role in the present context of Russian-Ukraine conflict has further underlined the role of India as a great power on the world stage.
 
Professor Srivastava also stated that India’s tryst with the G 20 as its chair saw innovation in the sense that the event led to virtually every nook and corner of India, involving every household to say so. There were 300 bilateral meetings at 65 places in India. India’s great success was in branding India as the soft power which of course adds to India as a major industrial and military power and also with its large middle class as the biggest market in the world. The historic Delhi Declaration reiterated the member countries’ resolve to ensure strong, sustainable,, balanced, and inclusive growth. Digitization of international economy, international taxation regime were the economic issues flagged.
 
Professor Srivastava also shared that a great initiative was the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)—a ship-to-rail transit network that will connect India and Europe through the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel. The plan is not just a win for US allies in Europe, for the Middle East, and for India, it also provides the most concrete effort to date by the West to counterbalance China’s economic investments in the Gulf.
 
The lecture was attended by the faculty members participating in the ongoing courses meant for the serving college and university teachers. The university teachers and research scholars from the university and from other universities also joined the lecture. Professor Jayanti Datta, Deputy Director, HRDC coordinated the programme. The lecture was conducted under the leadership of Professor Anju Suri, Director, HRDC, Panjab University.
