Panjab University observes National Youth Day
The National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, today celebrated National Youth Day to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Chandigarh, January 12, 2026: The National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, today celebrated National Youth Day to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig paid tributes to Swami Vivekananda and called upon the students to follow his great teachings. A large number of NSS volunteers, faculty members and staff of the University participated in the programme organised by Dr. Parveen Goyal, Programme Coordinator, NSS, and Dr. Sonia Sharma, Programme Officer, NSS, Panjab University. She also administered a pledge on youth empowerment to NSS volunteers, faculty members and staff.
While addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, appreciated the efforts of the NSS volunteers for their active participation in youth-oriented activities. She emphasised the need to strengthen the NSS in the University and stated that at least 10 per cent of students from each department should enrol as NSS volunteers.
Prof. Vig underlined the importance of mental health and happiness among the youth. She said that emotional well-being and a positive mindset were essential for students to lead balanced lives and contribute meaningfully to society. She also referred to the mentor–mentee programme being implemented across departments in the University, under which faculty members are being assigned groups of students for regular interaction, guidance and emotional support, with a dedicated weekly slot to address academic and personal concerns.
The event concluded with Lohri celebrations, which were enthusiastically participated in and enjoyed by NSS volunteers, faculty members and staff of Panjab University.
