Panjab University Observes National Unity Day to Mark 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Panjab University, Chandigarh, today celebrated National Unity Day to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India and a leading architect of the nation’s political and territorial integration. The University recalled Patel’s enduring legacy of unity, strength, and self-reliance, the core values that continue to inspire the nation.
 
                        Chandigarh, October 31, 2025: Panjab University, Chandigarh, today celebrated National Unity Day to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India and a leading architect of the nation’s political and territorial integration. The University recalled Patel’s enduring legacy of unity, strength, and self-reliance, the core values that continue to inspire the nation.
Greeting the students, faculty and staff on the National Unity Day, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, in her message recalled the great contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in nation’s unity and nation building. Sardar Patel’s leadership and determination in integrating the princely states laid the foundation for a strong, cohesive, and progressive India, she added.
As part of the observance, PU Registrar Prof. Y. P. Verma administered the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp’ pledge to the non-teaching staff of the university. The pledge, “Main Swadeshi apnane ka sankalp leta hoon…”, reaffirmed the participants’ commitment to self-reliance, indigenous innovation, and active participation in nation-building.
Prof. Verma, in his remarks, paid rich tribute to Sardar Patel’s exemplary leadership and called upon all members of the university community to uphold the values of unity, discipline, and dedication towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Controller of Examination Prof. Jagat Bhushan, Dr. Parveen Goyal, DPR Dr. Vineet Punia, and large number of non-teaching staff participated in the function with great enthusiasm.
