Chandigarh, April 2, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, the MSME Business Incubation Centre at Panjab University has secured research and innovation projects collectively valued at approximately Rs.30 lakh, strengthening its focus on translational research, startup incubation, and industry-oriented technological development.
A key project titled “Development of Novel Robust Catalyst Process for Conversion of Waste Biomass to Green Hydrogen for In-situ Indian Refinery Applications” reflects the Centre’s alignment with national priorities in sustainable energy and green hydrogen technologies.
The MSME Business Incubation Centre is led by Prof. Sanjeev Gautam, with Prof. Meenakshi Goyal as host institute coordinator, contributing to the development of an innovation pipeline that integrates academic research with industry applications.
Among the significant outcomes, Vanya Rana, a second-year BE Chemical Engineering - MBA student, along with team members Bani, Akshita, and Ayushi, has been awarded a Rs.15 lakh MSME startup grant for the project titled “AI-Powered Decentralized Micro Supply Chains for Tier-2 and Tier-3 MSMEs.” The project focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance supply chain efficiency and resilience for emerging markets.
The Centre’s performance builds on its previous achievements, where three projects worth Rs.42 lakh were sanctioned in the last year, of which two have already been implemented, indicating effective execution and tangible outcomes.
Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. Renu Vig, said that the progress of the MSME Incubation Centre reflects the University’s emphasis on innovation-driven research and entrepreneurship, contributing to areas such as sustainable energy and digital transformation of MSMEs.
 
Director, Research and Development Cell, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, stated that the incubation ecosystem at Panjab University is evolving as a platform for interdisciplinary innovation, with projects addressing both industrial and societal requirements.
 
The MSME Incubation Centre continues to support startups, promote student-led innovation, and facilitate the translation of research into practical technologies aligned with national development priorities.
