Panjab University today celebrated World Environment Day with plantation drives, cleanliness drives (Plog Run), environmental pledges, Poster Making, Slogan Writing, Pot Decorating competition and various awareness activities in various academic blocks and hostels.

Chandigarh, June 5, 2026: Panjab University today celebrated World Environment Day with plantation drives, cleanliness drives (Plog Run), environmental pledges, Poster Making, Slogan Writing, Pot Decorating competition and various awareness activities in various academic blocks and hostels. PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig planted a sapling of mor pankhi at mini rose garden near Basic Medical Sciences Block-I, Sector-25, PU Campus during the plantation drive organised by PU’s Horticulture Division.
Former PU Vice Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti; Dean Student Welfare Prof. Y.K. Rawal; Chief Vigilance Officer Prof. Simrit Kahlon; Executive Engineer-II Er. Anil Thakur; President PUTA Prof. Amarjit Singh Naura; CMO Rupinder Kaur; Director of Public Relations Dr. Vineet Punia; Architect Ar. Inder Gulati; Assistant Engineer (H) Er. Amandeep Singla; Wardens of various hostels, students, faculty of nearby departments were also present on the occasion. On this occasion, saplings of Meena Erecta, Mini Chandni, Motia, Kaner, Golden Cypress, Hibiscus, Ashoka etc. were planted by the other dignitaries. Posters spreading awareness regarding waste management were also unveiled at the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Vig highlighted the importance of plantation in saving environment. She called upon the students and staff to plant maximum number of plantations in coming monsoon season.
NSS Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with MY Bharat and Students for Development (SFD), Chandigarh also celebrated World Environment Day 2026 at the Dr. SSBUICET Ground, Panjab University. The NSS event witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS Programme Officers, volunteers, students, faculty members, and youth organizations including Dr. Anupam Bahri, Programme Coordinator, NSS; Dr. Nemi Chand Golia, State Liaison Officer, Chandigarh; and Shri Vinay Kumar, District Youth Officer, Chandigarh. Winners of Poster Making, Slogan Writing, and Pot Decorating Winners were felicitated with certificates and prizes by NSS.
Plantation Drives were organised in PU Hostels under the guidance of Prof. Yogesh Rawal, DSW, Prof. Namita Gupta, DSW-W, and Prof. Kashmir Singh, ADSW. Dr. Ravi Prakash Nath Tripathi, Warden BH-08, Dr. Sucha Singh, Warden BH-03, Dr. Anuj Kumar, BH-02, Dr. Naveen Kumar, BH-4, Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Girls Hostel no. 05, Dr. Supreet Gill, Warden, GH-8, Dr. Indu Sharma, GH-04, Dr. Ravi Tripathi, Warden of BH-8, Dr. Soni Sharma, Warden of GH-7 and Dr. Bani Narula, Warden of GH-11 and Dr. Vijay Bhardwaj, Warden, BH-5 were also present.
The Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Panjab University NCC Army Wing, also organised an Environmental Protection and Energy Conservation Awareness Drive. The awareness drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from Capt. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairman, Centre for Police Administration, and Coordinator NCC Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. Satnam Singh, Sweety, Rohit Kumar, Suresh Kumar, and Poonam, along with 20 NCC cadets and students, who played an active role in disseminating the message of environmental responsibility and energy conservation across the campus.
