Panjab University Launches Online Affiliation System to Enhance Transparency and Efficiency

Chandigarh, 27 May 2025: In a major initiative to simplify the complex multi-step process of college affiliation and increase transparency by providing clarity and efficiency at every stage, Panjab University today launched the online Affiliation Management System. PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig launched the online portal in the presence of Dean University Instructions Prof. Yojna Rawat; Dean, College Development Council Prof. Sanjay Kaushik; Prof. Rajat Sandhir; Prof. Sonal Chawla; Prof. Savita Uppal; and Dr. Parveen Goyal.

The SAMARTH portal, developed under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, has been customised specifically to suit Panjab University’s affiliation framework. By putting the affiliation process for Higher Education Institutions onto the SAMARTH platform, Panjab University aims to increase transparency, streamline academic processes, reduce delays in information sharing, and enhance overall record-keeping. Going forward, all inspections for ongoing courses will be conducted exclusively online, with colleges required to submit relevant institutional data through the portal. The DCDC office will thoroughly review this information, enabling a more efficient and transparent process.

The move also marks a shift in the university’s inspection policy. Physical inspections will now be limited to colleges introducing new courses, and even those will transition to the online format from next year. When physical verification is necessary, it will be conducted by a reduced two-member team comprising the Vice Chancellor’s Nominee and the DCDC Nominee, replacing the previously larger inspection committees, thus saving a lot of money and effort.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig appreciated the efforts made by the DCDC and the implementation team. She emphasised that this digitally enabled system sets a precedent for broader academic reforms and that Panjab University is committed to expanding such digital practices across its institutional ecosystem.

Earlier, Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Dean, College Development Council, welcomed attendees and noted the importance of this initiative in reducing delays and improving clarity. He shared that a dedicated committee—constituted by Prof. Renu Vig—was formed to oversee the implementation. The committee included Prof. Rajat Sandhir (Chairperson), Prof. Sonal Chawla, Prof. Savita Uppal, and Surjeet Singh Thakur (DR Colleges, Convener). Successful trial runs were conducted at both a government and a private college in Chandigarh.
