Panjab University launches entrepreneurial program to build startups around patented technologies and industry pain points

Chandigarh, August 1, 2025: The DST-Technology Enabling Centre (DST-TEC) at Panjab University, Chandigarh, has announced the launch of its flagship initiative, “Create Your Start-Up,” a six-month intensive entrepreneurial program designed to transform aspiring individuals into future-ready startup founders. Open to students, faculty, researchers, and working professionals from all backgrounds, the program will run from September 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026.

This unique program emphasises the creation of entirely new startups around patented technologies from premier academic institutions such as IITs, NITs, and universities, as well as around critical industrial pain points identified through direct industry engagement. Over the past two years, DST-TEC, in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), has visited more than 100 industries and collected over 150 specific pain points. Participants will be encouraged to build startups offering innovative solutions to these problems, with an effort to raise industry-backed funding for implementation.

The course, delivered in a hybrid format, includes 20 hours of structured instruction and seven hands-on assignments. Participants will be taught foundational and advanced concepts such as the definition and structure of startups, government startup schemes, the registration process, intellectual property rights (IPR), Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), investment requirements, market research, business plan creation, return on investment (ROI), and cash flow management.

Guided by CEOs, startup founders, investors, and renowned alumni of IIMs, IITs, and leading universities, participants will receive both theoretical and practical exposure. Upon completion, they will earn a certificate from DST-TEC, Panjab University, and gain access to six months of free post-program support to help launch and scale their ventures.

The program concludes with an exclusive Investors Meet on March 3, 2026, where selected participants will pitch their ventures to investors for funding in exchange for equity.

The last date to register is August 31, 2025.
