Panjab University Launches Admission Helpline for Transgender Students
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has launched a dedicated Admission Helpline for Transgender Students for the academic session 2026-27.
Chandigarh, June 15, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has launched a dedicated Admission Helpline for Transgender Students for the academic session 2026-27.
The initiative has been introduced through the Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for Transgender Students (PADCTS), functioning under the Centre for Human Rights & Duties. Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat, Coordinator of PADCTS, informed that the helpline has been established to provide guidance, support and assistance to transgender applicants regarding admissions and related procedures.
Candidates can utilise telephone services using the following numbers 8437807999, 8437220625, 9815064997; through the email [email protected] and the office address of the department is Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for Transgender Students (PADCTS), Emerging Areas Building, Centre for Human Rights & Duties, Panjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh- 160014. Candidates can seek support and guidance through these details.
PU offers one additional seat in each course for transgender students, a provision approved by the University Syndicate in 2023 to ensure equitable access to academic opportunities.
The University was the first institution in Punjab and the Tricity region to introduce an additional seat for transgender students from the academic session 2024-25 onwards. The provision is applicable across PU Teaching Departments, Regional Centres, Constituent Colleges and colleges affiliated to the University.
The initiative places PU among the pioneering universities in North India to institutionalise an inclusive admission measure. It reflects the University's continued efforts towards creating an accessible and discrimination-free educational environment.
