Chandigarh, June 5, 2026: Department of Political Science, Panjab University Opens Admissions for M.A. Political Science and M.A. Political Science with Research for Session 2026-27, according to a PU press release issued on Friday. 
Department of Political Science, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has invited applications for admission to the M.A. Political Science and M.A. Political Science with Research programmes for the academic session 2026-27. Admissions to both programmes will be made on the basis of merit.
The Department is offering a two-year (four-semester) M.A. Political Science programme with 50 seats, in addition to 2 NRI and 2 Foreign National seats. Admissions are also open for the two-year (four-semester) M.A. Political Science with Research programme, which has 10 seats along with 2 NRI and 1 Foreign National seat.
Online admission forms will be available from June 10, 2026, through the PU admission portal. The last date for submission of application forms is July 21, 2026. Candidates seeking admission are advised to regularly visit the Department website for updates and admission notices.
For admission to the M.A. Political Science programme, candidates who have qualified a B.A. under the NEP-2020 based FYUP framework from Panjab University or any other UGC-recognized Indian or foreign university are eligible, provided they have earned at least 24 credits in Political Science as a Minor or Multidisciplinary Course. Candidates falling short of the required credits may complete additional undergraduate-level Political Science courses to fulfil the requirement. Graduates holding a three-year B.A. (Hons.)/B.A. degree under the 10+2+3 system with at least 50 per cent marks, or those who have completed B.A./B.A. (Hons.) under the CBCS framework with 50 per cent marks and 24 Political Science credits, are also eligible.
For admission to the M.A. Political Science with Research programme, candidates must fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed for the M.A. programme. In addition, the research option is available only to candidates who have secured at least 75 per cent marks in their qualifying degree.
The Department of Political Science is recognized for its work in the fields of Indian Politics, International Relations and Geopolitics. The Department regularly hosts workshops, conferences and lectures. The Department also runs the Political Science Society, Electoral Literacy Club, Political Science Movie Club, Research Scholars’ Collective and the M.A. students’ discussion forum, Lyceum Dialogues.
The faculty members of the Department have published books, monographs, reports, articles, reviews and research papers in reputed journals, and several faculty members have served on editorial boards of international journals and as visiting professors in universities and institutions in India and abroad.
