Chandigarh, April 27, 2026: Panjab University (PU) Centre for Social Work (CSW) organised a webinar on “Interface of Social Work with Gender Studies” in online mode. The event was held under the guidance of Chairperson Prof. Monica Munjial Singh and Faculty Dr. Gaurav Gaur.
Chairperson, Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development Prof. Rajesh Kumar Chander, delivered the keynote address. He traced the historical evolution of social work in relation to gender studies, outlining key developments from the late 19th century to contemporary feminist movements. He highlighted the role of gender perspectives in shaping social work practices and policy frameworks.
Addressing current concerns, Prof. Chander discussed Violence Against Women (VAW) and its consequences, including physical disability, economic loss, educational discontinuation, low self-esteem, and mental health issues such as depression. He highlighted the need for gender-sensitive approaches within social work to respond effectively to these challenges.
Prof. Monica Munjial Singh noted the relevance of such academic engagements in strengthening awareness and critical understanding among students and researchers.
Faculty members, students, and researchers participated in the webinar. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, focusing on gender-inclusive practices in social work.
