Panjab University hosts seminar on innovation and entrepreneurship

Chandigarh, March 18, 2026: The Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a one-day seminar on “Innovate · Discover · Transform: Uniting Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”.
Experts from academia, industry and government deliberated on research translation and enterprise development during the seminar. The seminar was organised to encourage young researchers to translate scientific ideas into practical and scalable solutions.
In her address, the Chief Guest on the occasion and PU Director, Research and Development Cell, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, stressed the role of research in generating practical solutions and strengthening the university’s innovation ecosystem.
Guest of Honour Mr. Amit Kumar Boora, Site Head, FTO Unit 06, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., Baddi, spoke on industrial bioprocessing and the need to convert laboratory research into scalable production systems.
Earlier, Chairperson, Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Prof. Rohit Sharma, outlined the seminar’s theme and objectives, highlighting the need to align research with innovation and enterprise.
Among the speakers, Shivinder Singh, Scientist-D, IMD, Chandigarh, spoke on satellite and Doppler weather radar systems in forecasting and also discussed the effects of different geoengineering experiments on weather patterns and the atmosphere.
Hirdesh Madan, Co-founder and Managing Director, Hitbullseye and Mind Tree Chain, shared valuable insights on transforming ideas into meaningful outcomes through consistent hard work, discipline and clarity of vision. He emphasised the power of manifestation in shaping one’s goals and reflected on his diverse career journey, highlighting the various roles he has undertaken and the lessons learned at each stage.
Dr. Ayushi Aggarwal, Project Consultant at Alien Technology Transfer, discussed the pathway from laboratory discovery to market, including technology transfer, patentability and evaluation of innovations.
Dr. Parveen Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Haematology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, spoke on applications of artificial intelligence in haematopathology and its role in improving diagnostic efficiency.
The programme also featured an engaging panel discussion with all the invited speakers, encouraging interactive dialogue on bridging research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Students took part in a Startup Innovation Pitch session and poster presentations, followed by evaluation of exhibition stalls.
The event concluded with prize distribution and a vote of thanks by Prof. Rohit Sharma, who acknowledged the contributions of speakers, participants and organisers.
