Panjab University Hosts Faculty Awareness Workshop on Stanford Top 2% Scientists Ranking

Chandigarh, November 5, 2025: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised a Faculty Awareness Workshop to highlight responsible publishing and to guide faculty members on global research visibility so that maximum number of scientists could secure places on “Stanford List of Top 2% Scientists & Publishing in Scopus-Indexed Journals” at the CIL Seminar Hall today.

The initiative aimed to enhance faculty and research scholars’ understanding of international research visibility, global citation metrics, and Scopus-based evaluation parameters.

Delivering the inaugural address, PU Director, Research and Development Cell, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, mentioned the growing significance of author identity management, accurate citation tracking, and ethical publishing practices in an increasingly globalised academic environment. Emphasising the university’s consistent performance in the Stanford rankings, Prof. Goyal credited the leadership of PU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig for nurturing a culture of research integrity, data precision, and international collaboration. The university is celebrated for its continued representation in Stanford University’s Global List of Top 2% Scientists since 2019 and has 51 scientists named in the 2025 edition.

In the technical sessions, PU Dean, International Students, Prof. Kewal Krishan, elaborated on “Panjab University in the Stanford Top 2% Scientists Ranking” and “Scopus Database for Research Visibility.” He highlighted PU’s achievements, the implications of international recognition, and methods to strengthen author profiles and institutional visibility.

Deputy Librarian, A.C. Joshi Library, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, explained “Key Metrics and Methodology Behind the Stanford Ranking” and “Publishing in Scopus-Indexed Journals,” detailing core indicators like h-index and hm-index, and offering guidance on identifying reputable journals through Scopus tools.

The event registered 95 participants, with around 75 faculty members and research scholars attending from departments including Anthropology, Physics, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Zoology, Mathematics, and Computer Science & Applications. Active discussions and interactive Q&A sessions marked the proceedings, reflecting the participants’ enthusiasm to strengthen their global academic profiles.

The workshop concluded with a consensus on the need for continued institutional initiatives to enhance research impact. Guided by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig’s vision, PU plans to organise similar sessions for remaining departments in a phased manner, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and sustained international research recognition.
