Panjab University hosts discussion on Ravinder Sahiraa’s new books Surkh Rahaan De Hamsafar and Lahore
The Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a literary discussion on two newly published books ‘Surkh Rahaan De Hamsafar’ and ‘Lahore’ by US-based Punjabi poet Ravinder Sahiraa, followed by an interaction with readers.
Chandigarh, December 9, 2025: The Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a literary discussion on two newly published books ‘Surkh Rahaan De Hamsafar’ and ‘Lahore’ by US-based Punjabi poet Ravinder Sahiraa, followed by an interaction with readers.
Prof. Gurpal Singh, academic in-charge of the department in introduction said that immigrant Punjabi literature consistently engages with the cultural roots and traditions of Punjab. He noted that Sahiraa’s writings reflect issues concerning the Punjabi diaspora as well as global socio-cultural developments through multilayered narrative style. During the interaction, Sahiraa shared his personal experiences as an immigrant and recited poems.
Prof. Sarbjit Singh, School of Punjabi Studies, in his presidential address remarked that the present socio-economic scenario of Punjab demands rethinking, especially in the context of widespread migration. Chief Guest Sushil Dosanjh and Guest of Honour Neeru Sahiraa also addressed the students and applauded Sahiraa's contribution to contemporary Punjabi literature.
The programme witnessed participation from prominent Punjabi writers, literature enthusiasts, students, teachers and researchers including Prof. Uma Sethi, Dr. Devinder Singh, Prof. Akwinder Kaur and Dr. Rajiv Kumar.
