Chandigarh, May 14, 2026: Five days Advanced Training Workshop on “Animal Handling, Experimental Model Development, and Neurophysiological & Neurobehavioral Techniques” is going on in the Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh under the aegis of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). During the scientific deliberations, Prof. Laxmi T. Rao from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bengaluru and Dr. Mani Chopra, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered insightful and interactive lectures. The talk of Prof. Rao focused on advanced concepts and applications of EEG and stereotaxic surgery and their significance in neuroscience research and neurophysiological investigations.
The lecture of Dr. Chopra emphasised on behavioural manifestations and the experimental frameworks of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The lectures were followed by a demonstration session on stereotaxic surgery and hands-on exposure to various neurobehavioural tests which greatly enhanced the practical learning experience of the participants.
Dr. Pradeep Punnakkal from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research also delivered an informative lecture on important concepts related to brain waves and electroencephalography (EEG), ion channels and excitatory/ inhibitory synaptic transmission. Following the lecture, the workshop participants visited Department of Biophysics, PGIMER, Chandigarh, where they received exposure to the patch clamp electrophysiology setup, vibratome and learned about its applications in modern neuroscience research.
