Panjab University Honours International Students; Celebrating Achievements, Connecting Cultures

The Dean International Students Office (DIS), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised the DIS Awards and International Students Meet. The event, themed “Celebrating Achievements. Connecting Cultures,” aimed to recognise international student achievements and promote cultural exchange.

Chandigarh, August 22, 2026: The Dean International Students Office (DIS), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised the DIS Awards and International Students Meet. The event, themed “Celebrating Achievements. Connecting Cultures,” aimed to recognise international student achievements and promote cultural exchange.
Dean Student Welfare (Women) PU, Prof. Namita Gupta graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She encouraged the students to excel not only on academics but also in extracurricular activities. Chairperson, Department of Indian Theatre, Prof. Navdeep Kaur was the Guest of Honour, she inspired students by highlighting that PU offers extensive facilities for academics and research.
Dean International Students, Prof. Kewal Krishan welcomed the guests and international students. Dr Krishan apprised that we have 77 foreign national students at the moment and hope to have 100 students in total at the end of the admission session this year. This year, 28 scholars joined with the full ICCR (Indian Council of Cultural relations) from the Government of India.
Nayeem Raj and Kopotakhi Nupuroma Sinchi, international students from Bangladesh, were felicitated with Cash Awards of Dean International Students Rs. 2,100 each and mementos for securing first and third positions, respectively, in the Master of Arts Programme of Department of Indian Theatre during the academic session 2025-26.
Professor Krishan said that this award has been instituted for those international students who obtain the first three positions in their respective examinations every year. This year students from 25 countries like USA, Canada, Fiji, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Angola, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, Bhutan, Srilanka, Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Thailand, Ghana, Republic of Congo, Kazakhstan, Gambia, Djibouti, Uganda, Guyana joined the PU.
The event also featured vibrant cultural performances by international students, showcasing different traditions through music, dance and artistic expressions. The programme celebrated academic excellence while promoting friendship, diversity and cultural understanding among students.
