Panjab University Departments Mark Earth Day with Campus-wide Environmental Initiatives
Panjab University today observed Earth Day with a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students, faculty, and staff.
Chandigarh, April 22, 2026: Panjab University today observed Earth Day with a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students, faculty, and staff.
Various PU departments and institutes including Dr. S.S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (DCET), Department of Life Long Learning and Extension (DLLL), Centre for Public Health, Centre for Social Welfare, Department of Sanskrit, Public Administration, Department of Botany, Department of Economics, CDOE, Department of Education, Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology (AIHCA), Centre for Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, Department of Anthropology, Department of Computer Science and Applications (DCSA), Department of Statistics, and Department of Defence and National Security Studies (DANSS), Department of Zoology among others, organised tree plantation drives, interactive sessions, discussions, and awareness drives across the campus.
Highlighting the importance of Earth Day, PU Vice Chancellor Renu Vig said environmental protection is an urgent priority amid rising climate concerns. She urged students to adopt sustainable practices in daily life. She asked them to reduce waste and conserve resources. She also called on them to remain conscious of their ecological footprint and act responsibly.
On the occasion, chairperson and faculty members of the departments highlighted the significance of Earth Day and sensitised participants to pressing environmental concerns such as climate change, pollution, and conservation of natural resources. Emphasis was laid on adopting sustainable practices in daily life and encouraging collective responsibility towards environmental protection.
Students, research scholars, faculty, and staff participated in the programmes and took a pledge to use energy responsibly, conserve water and natural resources, and promote clean and sustainable practices for environmental protection.
