Panjab University Conducts Community Outreach on Prevention of Diabetes and Hypertension
The Centre for Public Health, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised a community outreach programme at Boys Hostel No. 8 focusing on awareness and prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.
Chandigarh, April 23, 2026: The Centre for Public Health, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised a community outreach programme at Boys Hostel No. 8 focusing on awareness and prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.
The programme was conducted under the mentorship of Chairperson, Centre for Public Health Dr. Manoj Kumar in the presence of faculty member Poonam Sharma. The awareness session, titled “Prevention of Diabetes and Hypertension,” was led by Jasdeep Singh and Karanjot Singh, MPH students.
The session engaged hostel workers and students, addressing the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases. The speakers highlighted the early warning signs of diabetes and hypertension, often termed “silent diseases” due to their gradual onset.
Participants were sensitised to preventive measures, including balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, reduced intake of salt and sugar, and stress management practices. The session emphasised the importance of early intervention and lifestyle modification in reducing health risks.
The initiative reflects PU’s continued engagement with community health awareness and preventive education.
