Panjab University Commemorates 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Disciples with Special Lecture

Chandigarh, 28 November 2025: A Lecture dedicated to the 350th Martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadurji, Bhai Sati Das Bhai Mati Das Bhai Dayalaji and Bhai Jaitaji; was organised by the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies. This program was a part of one month celebration of the 350th martyrdom of Tegh Bahadur and Bhai Sati Das Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Dayalaji and Bhai Jaitaji. 

The main speaker was Prof. Manjinder Singh, Chairperson department of Punjabi Studies, GNDU, Amritsar. 

In his welcome address, Prof. Gurpal Singh academic incharge of the department said that the martyrdom of Guru Ji and disciples is unique in world history. They sacrifice their lives for the religious freedom of others. 

The main speaker gave a detailed address on the martyrdom of Guru Ji and disciples with the sociological, historical and philosophical aspects. He said that all the Martyrs belong to each and every section of the society which shows a true nature of the composite culture of India.
 
Harjit Atwal, famous novelist from the UK said that he is very impressed of Martyrdom of Guru Ji and disciples. He said that this is an instinctive nature of Punjabis that always stands against injustice and inequalities.

Students from various departments of the University and college attended the lecture.
