Panjab University commemorates 135th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre, Panjab University, marked the 135th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Evening Studies Auditorium, drawing participation of over 200 students and faculty members.
Chandigarh, April 20, 2026: The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre, Panjab University, marked the 135th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Evening Studies Auditorium, drawing participation of over 200 students and faculty members.
PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig highlighted the continued relevance of observing Ambedkar’s birth anniversary in reinforcing constitutional values and democratic responsibility.
Keynote speaker, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala Vice Chancellor Prof. Rattan Singh examined Ambedkar’s intellectual and political trajectory. Referring to his work 'Waiting for a Visa,' he discussed caste based discrimination and Ambedkar’s engagement at the First Round Table Conference as a representative of marginalized communities. The lecture stressed the need to revisit Ambedkar’s ideas in addressing persistent social inequalities.
Chairman, Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi Dr. Manmohan Singh (IPS Retd.) spoke on the influence of Guru Ravidas’s teachings on Ambedkar’s thought and discussed key historical developments including the Mahad Satyagraha, Ambedkar’s journalistic interventions, and the evolution of Dalit discourse in historiography.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat Vice Chancellor Prof. Devinder Singh addressed the philosophical dimensions of Ambedkar’s work, underlining its academic and contemporary relevance.
Coordinator of the Centre, Prof. Navjot opened the programme with a welcome address, highlighting Ambedkar’s role in shaping modern India and his contribution to the Constitution.
