Panjab University, Chandigarh and Invest Punjab, MEITY, GoI collaborating to set up e-waste recycling cluster in Punjab 

Panjab University, Chandigarh and Invest Punjab, MEITY, GoI are collaborating to set up an e-waste recycling cluster in the state. The decision was taken at a meeting held today between Prof. RenuVig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, and the team of delegates under the leader ship of DPS Kharhanda CEO, Invest Punjab, Govt of Punjab , a team from Punjab Innovation Mission& MEITY Delegates.

Chandigarh, October 27, 2023: Panjab University, Chandigarh and Invest Punjab, MEITY, GoI are collaborating to set up an e-waste recycling cluster in the state. The decision was taken at a meeting held today between Prof. RenuVig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, and the team of delegates under the leader ship of DPS Kharhanda CEO, Invest Punjab, Govt of Punjab , a team from Punjab Innovation Mission& MEITY Delegates.

At the outset, Prof. Renu Vig, introduced about the different facilities and centers already engaged in capacity building. She apprised the team about S&T cluster setup by GoIin Panjab University recently. She also informed the team about the Innovation Ecosystem of Panjab University where Technology Enabling Centre brings industrial problems, Design Innovation Centre and Skill Development Centre trainsstudents on innovative technologies and PU Technology Business Incubation Unit provides them incubation space.  In the area, E-Waste management, Vishal Sharma, informed about the lab funded by MEITY, GoI with a total outlay of Rs 2.2 Crores. More than 300 skilled workers have already been trained under this to work in E-Waste Recycling Cluster.

It was decided in meeting to setup a SPV for this and request Govt of Punjab to allocate suitable land for setting up of E-Waste Recycling Cluster. The e-waste recycling cluster will be a one-stop shop for the collection, processing, and recycling of e-waste in Punjab. It will help to reduce environmental pollution and create jobs in the state.
 

Somveer Anand, CEO & MD, Punjab Innovation Mission under the Aegis of Punjab Government highlighted the various opportunities being provided by Govt of Punjab under various central schemes to emerging Start-ups. 

DPS Kharhanda IAS informed all delegates about the need to educate the students about the various schemes of Start Up India and Start Up Punjab Mission through various forum for encouraging participation. He also informed that Punjab Government is committed along with the leading Banks and Finance for immediate loan disbursement for young entrepreneurs.

Vice Chancellor, Panjab University highlighted the need of such programs and how these can be conducted in cluster at District level. She also explained how PU Centers can help in capacity building of young entrepreneurs.
