Chandigarh, April 10, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, Centre for Social Work organised a series of special lectures aimed at providing students with a deeper understanding of contemporary social issues and emerging societal challenges.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Chairperson, Prof. Monica Munjal Singh and Dr. Gaurav Gaur.
The lecture series featured speakers from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. Prof. Manoj Teotia from Department of Sociology, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, delivered a lecture on “Urbanisation in Northwestern India: Emerging Issues and Alternatives,” while Prof. Manisha Bhatia, Department of Home Science, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib, spoke on “Sustainable Livelihood through Self-Help Groups (SHGs).”
Further sessions included a lecture by Prof. Reena Rani Choudhary, Department of Sociology, Centre for Distance and Online Education, PU on “Gender Equality: A Sociological Inquiry,” and Prof. Manjushri Sharma, University Institute of Applied Management Sciences PU on “Health for All: A Critique.”
A special lecture on “Social Evils in the Society” was delivered by Physical Education Lecturer, I.S. Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, Chandigarh, Capt. Govind Singh. NCC Coordinator and Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration PU, Capt. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, attended as the special guest.
In her remarks, Prof. Monica Munjal Singh highlighted the importance of such academic engagements in strengthening students’ understanding of real-world social challenges.
The lecture series witnessed active student participation, with interactive discussions and exchanges with the speakers, contributing to both academic enrichment and practical insight.
