Panjab University celebrated World Theatre Day

Chandigarh, March 27, 2022: The Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated World Theatre Day from 26th-27th March. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Administrator of Haryana Urban Development, Shri Ajit Balaji Joshi. Mr. Joshi congratulated the Chairperson Dr. Navdeep Kaur for her initiative to organise the event and appreciated the students for their zeal and efforts.
 
The event began with the felicitation of alumnus Mr. Atul Sharma and Mr. Chakresh Kumar with award of appreciation for their contribution to performing arts.
 
This was followed by paper presentations by research scholars and panel discussions.
 
The students from first year presented various demonstration cum performances that were conducted at different spaces in the department. The objective was to make space, a medium of expression in performance.
 
Second year students presented Abhigyaan Shakuntalam and Four stories - Thakur ka Kuan, The Bet, Mukti and Bhay.
 
The Emeritus Professors of the department Dr Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry too graced the occasion and gave their wishes to the students.
 
Mr. Pankaj Sharma Pannu, Ms. Sejuti Bagchi and Mr. Chaman Lal were felicitated for conducting ten day workshops for students of the department.
 
The Chairperson Dr. Navdeep Kaur talked about the indispensability of theatre in every aspect of life.
 
The anchor Anmol too talked about the history of World Theatre Day. The entire department was decorated as per the theme of Yaadon ke Jharokhein Se.
