Chandigarh, September 8, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) hosted a workshop on "The Art of Effortless Dressing and Impressing," highlighting a vital truth often overlooked in academic spaces: how we present ourselves is inseparable from how we communicate, build confidence, and navigate professional success.
Director, CDOE, Prof. Geeta Bansal, opened the dialogue by emphasising that today's generation is defined by agency, speed, and fluidity—qualities that reshape how presentation matters. She framed dressing as a mode of communication rooted in positive body image, self-respect, and intentionality.
Chief Guest, Chairperson, UIFT & VD PU, Prof. Prabhdip Brar, introduced a paradox: effortless dressing requires tremendous effort, yet only becomes secondary once you've established yourself as a recognisable brand. She positioned fashion as a contemporary academic subject of growing necessity, reflecting how food, housing, and clothing have evolved from basic needs to expressions of identity and taste.
Resource Person, Guneesha Dhatt, an image consultant and soft-skills coach, said that first impressions are formed through dress, body language, and confidence which are decisive in both formal and informal spaces. Through practical insights on everything from casual to formal wear, she highlighted how understanding personal space and mastering subtle gestures like handshakes create lasting assessments before words are even spoken.
Dr Rhythm Singh Randhawa, Community & Creative Entrepreneur and Management Specialist, Miss Punjab, Miss India, Top Model introduced a critical ethical dimension: sustainable fashion. She challenged participants to consider not just personal impact but the industry's footprint on climate, chemicals, waste, and human lives. Her vision of "slow fashion" is clothing designed to last and be restyled that promotes conscious, self-directed choices over trend-driven consumption, cultivating competence, confidence, and consideration in equal measure.
200 students actively engaged with resource persons. The event was coordinated by Dr Ravinder Kaur and the core team included Dr Kamla, Dr Parveen, Dr Reena and Dr Rajni Jassal.
