Panjab University Alumnus Ajaypal Singh Dhaliwal Meets PU Vice Chancellor After Scaling Mount Everest
Panjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig today felicitated PU Alumnus Ajaypal Singh Dhaliwal, who recently scripted history by scaling Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.
Chandigarh, June 1, 2026: Panjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig today felicitated PU Alumnus Ajaypal Singh Dhaliwal, who recently scripted history by scaling Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.
Dhaliwal had called on the Vice Chancellor in her office and shared his experiences from the challenging expedition. Former Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun Kumar Grover and former Dean of Alumni Relations Prof. Anil Monga were also present during the meeting.
Originally belonging to Village Kasam Bhatti in Faridkot district, Punjab, and currently based in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, Dhaliwal reached the 8,848.86-metre summit of Mount Everest on May 20, 2026, after years of rigorous preparation and determination. A barrister by profession, he began his Everest expedition on April 30, 2026, and completed his mission despite facing some of the most challenging conditions on the mountain.
During his interaction with the Vice Chancellor, Dhaliwal spoke about the inspiration and motivation he derived from his association with Panjab University. “The courage to scale Mount Everest came from PU as I studied Law at Panjab University. We were also doing regular hiking under the banner of the PU Alumni Hiking Club in Canada”, he added. He informed that he had tried to scale Everest in 2025 as well, but this year he enhanced his preparations.
Dhaliwal also briefed the Vice-Chancellor about the extensive preparations undertaken before the expedition and the challenges encountered during the climb. He shared details of the physical training, endurance-building exercises and mental preparation required to undertake such a demanding mission.
Prof. Renu Vig congratulated Dhaliwal on his extraordinary achievement and lauded his courage, perseverance and unwavering determination. She remarked that his accomplishment reflects the spirit of excellence, resilience and global leadership associated with Panjab University alumni. She expressed confidence that his achievement would motivate students and young people to dream big and pursue excellence in every sphere of life.
