Paddy Straw a Good Alternative for Animal Feed: DC Sachin Gupta

Rohtak, October 10, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said that paddy straw is an excellent option for animal feed. He directed the officers of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department to work with Gaushala (cow shelter) managers and heads in the district for proper management of paddy straw.

During a meeting with Gaushala managers, it was assured that for the Kharif 2025 season, they would collect as much paddy straw as possible to prevent stubble burning and use it to meet the dry fodder requirements of Gaushalas. The DC said that burning crop residue pollutes the environment and affects the health of all living beings. Stubble burning causes various diseases. Paddy straw can be used as dry fodder for cattle in Gaushalas for a long time.

Through the Agriculture Department, Gaushala managers have assured cooperation in speeding up the collection of paddy straw during harvesting. The Gaushalas also stated that they would themselves collect and store the straw donated by farmers. Farmers, after harvesting the paddy crop, can also use agricultural machinery to mix the crop residue into the soil, which enhances soil fertility and increases organic carbon levels.

As per the directions of DC Sachin Gupta, Deputy Director Agriculture Dr. Surender Malik held a meeting with Gaushala managers in the district, urging them to collect maximum paddy straw for animal feed. All managers assured full cooperation in lifting the straw for use as fodder. This initiative will not only help curb stubble burning but also ensure sufficient feed supply for the cattle sheltered in Gaushalas.
