Ludhiana, Oct 14, 2025: The paddy procurement in district is proceeding smoothly, with procurement agencies purchasing 94.25% of the arrived paddy stock from grain markets.
According to official records up to October 13, 134,456 metric tons (MT) of paddy have arrived, of which 126,719 MT have been procured. Payments amounting to Rs 303.14 crores have been credited to farmers’ bank accounts within the stipulated timeframe.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain emphasized the district administration’s commitment to procuring every grain of farmers’ produce.
“We have made comprehensive arrangements at all procurement centers to ensure seamless operations,” Jain stated and added that officials have been instructed to carry out regular inspections of mandis to monitor and optimize the procurement process, addressing any challenges promptly.
To maintain quality standards, Jain urged farmers to ensure their paddy is thoroughly dried and meets government-specified moisture levels before bringing it to the markets. He also called for strict compliance with combine harvester operating hours (10 AM to 6 PM) to minimize crop moisture levels, warning that violations can lead to penalties, including equipment seizure.
Additionally, Jain exhorted the farmers to manage paddy stubble using modern agricultural machinery instead of burning it as it burning not only harms the environment but also produces pollution that is detrimental to human health. He added that paddy stubble is useful for the farmers as residue can play an important role in enhancing the fertility of the soil if harvested in the field with the help of ultra-modern equipment.
