Chandigarh, June 27, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday congratulated the litchi cultivators of the state for achieving global recognition, as the delicious fruit is now available on international shelves in Doha, Qatar.

In a statement, the Chief Minister said that the state government has been making continuous efforts to take Punjab’s products to international markets. As a result of these efforts, for the first time, the sweet and delicious  litchis from Pathankot have reached stores in Doha, Qatar. Bhagwant Singh Mann added that this marks a new chapter of global recognition for the hard work of Punjab’s farmers and the premium quality of the state’s produce.

The Chief Minister further said that in the coming days, along with fruits grown in Punjab’s fertile soil, other products from the state will also be introduced to markets across the country and around the world. He emphasized that this is a significant boost for Punjab’s farmers, as it is the first time these delectable litchis have made their way to international shelves. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this milestone represents the beginning of a new era of global acknowledgment for Punjab’s hardworking and resilient farmers.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that the state government has already been making strenuous efforts to promote crop diversification by encouraging fruit and vegetable cultivation. He stressed that it is imperative to move farmers away from the traditional wheat-paddy cycle in order to enhance  their income. Bhagwant Singh Mann added that Punjab holds immense potential for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, and the government will continue to push forward initiatives to promote crop diversification across the state.
