Orientation seminar “Statistica-2025”
Department of Statistics, Panjab University today organised an orientation seminar “Statistica-2025” to welcome the newly admitted M.Sc. 1st Year students.

Chandigarh, August 20, 2025: Department of Statistics, Panjab University today organised an orientation seminar “Statistica-2025” to welcome the newly admitted M.Sc. 1st Year students.
Alumni of the department, Suraj Kumar, Senior AI Engineer, Channel Fusion, Chandigarh, and Mr. Akash Pandey, Solution Architect, XenonStack Private Limited, Chandigarh interacted with the newly admitted students.
In his opening remarks, Chairperson, Department of Statistics, Professor Narinder Kumar provided a brief overview of the course outcomes by explaining various placement opportunities in Government organizations and corporate sectors. He also shared the glorious history and journey of the department, which celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2024.
Akash Pandey presented various hiring trends and rising skill demands in the field of Statistics. He explained to the students how they can acquire skills to meet the job requirements of national and international companies.
Suraj Kumar also narrated his journey from being a student of the department to becoming a well-placed employee in a reputed company. Furthermore, he explained the various job profiles that may be pursued by the students upon completion of the course.
The seminar was further hosted by M.Sc. 2nd Year students, with a welcome address delivered by Shivnandan and Ms. Arpita Jain, followed by a presentation giving a brief introduction of the department, its mission and vision, and the academic calendar. One by one, senior M.Sc. 2nd Year students shared important information with the newly admitted students in a very effective way, including details about the academic calendar, attendance rules, condonation process, syllabi, examination form filling, hostel form filling, etc. A beautiful virtual tour of Panjab University was also shown by the seniors, highlighting the A.C. Joshi Library, Student Centre, Gandhi Bhawan, Rose Garden, Botanical Garden, Sports Ground, University Market, Health Centre, Campus Temple, and Gurudwara Sahib.
A short video on anti-ragging and a skit on drug abuse were also presented to educate and make the newly admitted students aware of the various measures being taken by Panjab University to eradicate these issues from the campus. A pledge on “No Drugs” in the campus was also administered.
Faculty members, Dr. Anju Goyal, Associate Professor, and Dr. Savita Jain, also welcomed the newly admitted students. Harminder Singh Deosi, System Administrator, presented the vote of thanks to conclude the seminar. The students, research scholars, and staff attended the orientation seminar with great enthusiasm.
