Orientation Programme concludes at Department of Anthropology, PU
The Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. at the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully completed today. The programme aimed to introduce the newly admitted students to the dynamic field of anthropology.
Chandigarh, September 10, 2024: The Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. at the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully completed today. The programme aimed to introduce the newly admitted students to the dynamic field of anthropology.
Dr. J.S. Sehrawat, Chairperson, Department of Anthropology, PU delivered an insightful keynote address, highlighting the importance of anthropology in today’s rapidly changing world. Faculty members elaborated on the interdisciplinary nature of anthropology, emphasizing its relevance in understanding human societies, cultures, and biological diversity. The students were also given an introduction to the core subfields of anthropology—socio-cultural, physical, archaeological, and linguistic anthropology to provide them an initial understanding of how anthropology uniquely bridges natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
Faculty members discussed the wide-ranging applications of anthropological knowledge in various sectors, including healthcare, development, environment, public policy, and corporate sectors. The session underlined the scope of anthropology in both research and applied fields. Students were informed about diverse career pathways, ranging from academia, forensics, and medical anthropology to roles in NGOs, government agencies, and international organizations.
