Operation Walk III-2014 – the third edition of the unique and magnanimous philanthropic event at DMCH, Ludhiana gives new life to patients.

Ludhiana, January 23, 2014: Operation Walk III-2014 – the third edition of the unique and magnanimous philanthropic event at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana successfully completed 62 joint replacement surgeries in three days. These surgeries have been carried out on poor needy patients in association with a team of specialists from USA. These patients with advanced disabling arthritis of the hip and knee joints had been condemned to a life of pain and misery with no means to afford even pain medicines, let alone joint replacement. Many of them had lost their livelihood and were unable to support their families.

The hallway of the orthopaedic ward was filled with patients with walkers in their hands and smiles on their faces. With advanced physiotherapy and pain management protocols, they were able to walk the day after surgery with very less pain. All of them were thankful that they were taken care of with a very high level of kindness and dedication. As a token of their gratitude, the patients arranged an ‘ardaas’ for the treating team in the hospital ward. Mr. Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary Managing Society, DMC said that all facilities have been provided totally free of cost to these patients. This year we have also provided free meals to the patients from our dietary department. Even on follow-up all investigations including X-rays would be done without any charges.

Prof. Mohd. Yamin and Dr. Deepak Jain, Associate Professor, Orthopaedics and Co-ordinator of the project said that the standard of joint replacement surgery at DMC would get a major uplift with the adoption of advanced protocols.

Dr. Jain said that a total of 62 joint replacement surgeries have been carried out on fifty one patients including 45 knee and 17 hip replacement surgeries. The patients have been operated by latest techniques and implants. The patients would undergo two days of post operative rehabilitation to make sure that the patients get the best results.

Prabhjot Likhari and Dr. Paul Khanuja, Directors of Operation Walk Maryland said that they were very happy coming to DMC for the third time for this project and acknowledged the support of the management in organising this event.//ludhiana news online, ludhiana news in English, ludhiana news, ludhiana current news, ludhiana news live, Ludhiana breaking news, Ludhiana headlines, Ludhiana latest news, punjab news, india news, punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news,
