Chandigarh: Dr. Deepak Sharma, Assistant Professor, Guest Faculty, Department of Public Administration, Panjab University is the only Indian who has been selected to attend an International staff training programme on Animal Welfare, importance of education and fund raising for better management of NGOs to be held at London from 16th to 20th March, United Kingdom The training will be sponsored by Dogs Trust International, UK. 
The training programme will be of great importance for development of animal welfare standards and reduction of human animal conflict at community level. Dr. Deepak Sharma is associated with Animal Lovers Association (Regd since 2002) which is self funded organization working for welfare of community animals. The managing committee comprises of Academicians, PU Alumni and members of varies professions. The organization runs an animal shelter in village Soonak, Mohali Punjab. The shelter houses sick and injured small and large animals that includes cows, bulls, donkeys,horses,dogs and birds. Recently Animal Lovers Association is adjudged as one of the best shelters across India by Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations and Felicitated by Mayor of Local Government, Chandigarh. The workshop will to understand how more effectively projects can be undertaken to promote harmonious and peaceful coexistence between humans and animals which is the need of hour.
