Online awareness generation session on combating nutrient loss during cooking by Home Science College
The session included discussion about the loss of nutrients
Chandigarh: In today's outreach programme at Home Science College, tips and ways to minimise nutrient losses for cooking were discussed. The program received a great response by the target audience. Around 35 mothers joined the session and participated actively in the quiz and during the interaction. The webinar gave an insight about the nutrient losses during different cooking methods and to overcome them to prevent malnutrition.
The session included discussion about the loss of nutrients mainly, water soluble vitamins (vit C, thiamine, vitamin B12 etc.) during washing, cutting, boiling, simmering, roasting, frying and microwave cooking methods and the strategies to combat them, to keep the nutrients intact in the food. The strategies for improving the nutritional value in food was also discussed.
Principal of the college Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged everyone to follow healthy and safe cooking practices especially during the time of pandemic.
