Ferozepur, January 24, 2014: Continuing their campaign against drug peddlers in the region, Punjab Police achieved a major success today while confining one drug peddler along with fourteen packets of contraband, worth Rs.70 crore in the international market.

Paramraj Singh Umranangal, I.G., Bathinda Zone and Yurinder Singh Hayer, D.I.G., Ferozepur Range, while addressing a press conference stated that keeping in view the approaching Republic Day celebrations, special nakas were laid. On one of these nakas at village Sabuana, situated at Ferozepur-Mallanwala road, the police observed two suspicious persons while riding over a two-wheeler coming from Sabuana Village to Ferozepur on Friday. The suspects were signaled to stop for checking but they tried to dodge the police team to flee. But one of them was overpowered by police team, who was later identified as Gurpreet singh aka Gopi, resident of village Pallamegha. His accomplice succeeded to run away under the cover of darkness.

During the search of the bags recovered from the bike, the police team seized fourteen kilogram heroin, one mobile phone with Pakistani sim card. The fled accused is yet to be identified. The police is investigating and tracing the racket involved into drug trafficking.

The police has registered a case under NDPS Act, IPC and IT Act IPC against both the culprits. 

It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab Police have registered thirty two cases under NDPS Act during this year and have successfully managed to seize 15 kilogram heroin and twenty kilogram opium along with two kilogram charas and other illegal bits and pieces.//punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news, world news,
