Sony SAB’s much-loved show Itti Si Khushi continues to strike an emotional chord with viewers through the journey of Anvita (Sumbul Touqueer Khan), as she steps beyond survival to take control of her life. Walking quietly beside her through every high and low is Virat, portrayed by Rajat Verma, a warm-hearted, sincere man whose approach to life is guided by love, even when that very emotion leads him into emotional turmoil.

Virat’s greatest strength lies in his ability to love selflessly, be it Anvita, family, or the people around him. At the same time, his careless decisions and tendency to lie become his biggest flaws, often pushing him into situations he never intends to create. This blend of innocence, impulsiveness, and emotional honesty makes Virat both relatable and deeply human.

Speaking about his character, Rajat Verma shares how he sees a strong reflection of himself in Virat.

What is the biggest strength and biggest flaw of your character Virat in Itti Si Khushi?
Virat’s biggest strength is that he has a lot of love to give, whether it’s for Anvita, for family, or for kids. He believes he can do anything with love. He can create, fix, and face anything if love is involved. His biggest flaw is the way he lies and his careless behaviour. Because of this habit of lying, all the drama in his life happens. That is definitely his biggest flaw.

How much of Virat’s personality do you see in yourself in real life?
The fun and charming factor, I definitely see that in myself. Virat’s outspoken nature is something I don’t really relate to. Other than that, he’s quite careless and believes everything can be solved with love. And honestly, he’s a bit of a fool, so I completely relate to that. I’d say around 80% of his personality feels like mine.

What has been the most emotionally challenging scene for you so far, and how did you prepare for it?
The most emotionally challenging part for me was when Virat gets separated from Anvita and has to run away from the engagement because of Sanjay. That entire week was very emotional, confessing our love, explaining why I ran away, and everything that followed. The shooting schedule actually helped me a lot because I had a one-week gap before coming back to the show, when Virat returns to kidnap her. During that break, I really missed the set, my co-actors, and everyone. That longing helped me emotionally. I also stayed away from social media and avoided talking to people intentionally so I could stay in that emotional zone. When we finally shot the scene, it came out beautifully. I think the schedule really helped.

How would you describe Virat’s relationship with Anvita?
Virat and Anvita’s relationship is deeply emotional and intense. It’s built on love, longing, and sacrifice. Even when circumstances force them apart, their connection remains strong, and Virat’s actions are always driven by his love for her.

What makes Virat’s character different from the roles you have played so far?
Virat loves selflessly. He genuinely cares about people and society. Once he trusts someone, he stands by them no matter what. He has no ego and will go to any extent for the people he loves. I’ve never played such a completely selfless character before, and that’s what makes Virat very different from my previous roles.

Who is most likely to lighten the mood on set during the shoot?
Everyone on set brings their own energy, but there’s always someone cracking jokes and keeping the atmosphere light. The camaraderie on set really helps balance intense scenes.

One life lesson Itti Si Khushi has taught you?
One important life lesson the show has taught me is that happiness doesn’t always come from big wins. It exists quietly in small moments that we remember forever. Living in the moment and focusing on small joys eventually adds up to real happiness. Another lesson is that love truly has the power to heal everything.

Virat often reacts impulsively. How did you portray this without making him seem unlikeable?
That was quite challenging because it was important to keep Virat likeable. Today, he’s one of the most loved characters on the show. I played his impulsiveness through his naivety, he doesn’t react out of malice but innocence. The writers helped a lot with the dialogues and character arc, which made sure his impulsive actions felt genuine and not negative.
