One Health Approach Vital to Protect Human, Animal and Environmental Health: AIIMS Expert Dr Rana

Rohtak, August 26, 2026: Human, animal and environmental health are closely interconnected, and addressing the growing threat of zoonotic diseases requires coordinated efforts by doctors, scientists, veterinarians and communities, said Dr Manipal Rana, an expert from the Department of Biotechnology, AIIMS New Delhi.
Dr Rana was speaking at a One Health Awareness Workshop-cum-Talk organised by the Centre for Biotechnology (CBT), MDU, on the theme “Working Together: Preventing Zoonoses Through Community Action.”
Interacting with students and research scholars, Dr Rana explained the concept of One Health and discussed strategies for preventing zoonotic diseases. He stressed that maintaining a balance between human health, animal health and the environment is essential, as neglecting any one of these areas can increase the risk of infections.
He highlighted the crucial role of public awareness in preventing zoonotic diseases. People, he said, need to be informed about potential sources of infection, preventive measures and the importance of seeking timely medical advice.
Dr Rana also encouraged students to develop a scientific outlook and help disseminate accurate health information in society.
CBT Director Prof Ritu Gill thanked Dr Rana for the interaction and said such programmes provide students with an opportunity to understand real-world public health challenges beyond classrooms and laboratories.
Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Meenakshi Vashishth, Prof Ritu Gill, Prof Sarvjeet Singh Gill, Prof Sanjeev Kumar of CBLU Bhiwani and Prof Vikram Saini of AIIMS New Delhi were present on the occasion.
MSc students and PhD scholars actively participated in the programme and gained insights into One Health and the prevention of zoonotic diseases.
