The daily habit of drinking a glass of milk, especially during morning breakfast, is something that most of us remember distinctly from our childhood. Considered to be healthy and nutritious, most parents, especially mothers, more often have had their ways to ensure their children drink it till the last drop. On World Milk Day, &TV artists Kapil Nirmal (Tarakasur, Baal Shiv), Kamna Pathak (Happu Singh, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), Roshitashv Gour (Manmohan Tiwari, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai) and Akansha Singh (Sakina Mirza, Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha hai?) talk about the fuss and fun of drinking milk and share their funny stories about dodging this mandatory morning routine.

Kapil Nirmal, aka Tarakasur in &TV’s Baal Shiv, shares, “Having a warm glass of milk before breakfast was a daily routine in my home. But I remember I never liked milk much and would make faces. I would pretend to drink it every time my mom stood in front of me. But the moment she would get away, I would immediately run to the washroom, flush the entire milk glass, and smartly come back, holding an empty glass against my lips and then announce ‘Mummy, Ho Gaya!’. But one day, my mom caught me and gave me an earful. But then I told her it was boring to have the same thing every day, so she started adding kesar, nuts, honey etc., to add flavour and variety. So much so that I started liking it over time, and now it continues to be a part of my daily routine. Today I know the healthy benefits of drinking milk and recommend it to everyone to lead a healthy life.”

Rohitashv Gour, aka Manmohan Tiwari in &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “I have never been too fond of milk and was extremely fussy about it as a kid. I always would find ways to avoid drinking it. I used to trick my sibling into completing my glass by enticing her to complete their homework in exchange. Eventually, my sister realised what I was doing and complained to my mother one day. Hell broke loose, and I was punished with drinking milk twice a day for a month or so. During those days, my mother made me realise that milk is a crucial part of a child's development since it provides calcium, protein, and other nutrients. Now I make sure that everyone in my family, especially my children, drink milk daily.”

Yogesh Tripathi, aka Happu Singh in &TV’s Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “I love milk, but I detest the malai that comes with it in the same breath! I have always had an issue drinking hot beverages in a jiff. I like it mildly warm but not very hot. And drinking a glass of hot milk daily during childhood is something most of us have experienced. I could never finish drinking fast and then be grossed with that malai that would eventually surface. So, I used to remove malai with a spoon and stick it at various places - on the chair, under the table, on the wall – anything and everything I could get my hands on to throw it! One day, my parents figured out what I was up to and got me to clean all those surfaces so that I learn my lesson. So, I started gulping down the milk in one go, and it is my habit to date! Now I laugh thinking over this habit!”

Akansha Singh, aka Sakina Mirza in &TV’s Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai?, shares, “I love drinking milk. However, like many other kids, I too did not like drinking milk as a child. So much so that I used to feed my glass of milk to cats in our vicinity. I made it a ritual to go out on the veranda, call over cats in the area and feed them my milk. However, one day one of our neighbours caught me in the act and informed my parents. While they liked that I was feeding the cats, they made it a ritual to give me a glass of milk and keep a bowl of milk for the cats on the veranda. They told me that I must also drink if I wanted the cats to be fed. From that moment on, I cherished drinking milk, and of course, its health benefits must not be ignored. On this World Milk Day, I recommend everyone to drink milk and stay healthy.”
