On Vijay Diwas, Lyallpur Khalsa College paid tribute to Kargil Martyrs

Jalandhar, August 1, 2022: On the occasion of the 23rd Kargil Vijay Diwas, a solemn wreath laying ceremony was held at the Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jalandhar to commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces and to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of our martyrs.

Wreaths were laid in memory of the martyrs by Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra, Lieutenant Colonel Subhash Dhar, 2 PB Battalion NCC Jalandhar, SM Harbhajan Singh, retired Indian Army personnel, and college NCC Cadets. Principal Samra in his address said that Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year as a saga of gallantry and valour of a battle fought in the world's most inhospitable terrain in the Kargil-Drass Sector of Ladakh. Indian Armed Forces fought valiantly on the steep slopes of icy peaks with grit and valour, defeating the enemy's evil designs.  Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed in India to honour the sacrifices made by Indian Army soldiers during the Kargil War in 1999. During Operation Vijay, India defeated Pakistan in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, now Ladakh. On July 26, 1999, Indian troops declared victory over Pakistani rangers after nearly three months of fighting on the icy heights of Kargil. They hoisted the tricolour after retaking the peaks occupied by Pakistani soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Dhar informed the cadets that the Kargil War was fought at an altitude of approximately 16,000 feet, with 1,042 Pakistani soldiers killed and 527 Indian soldiers martyred.

SUO Kanwaljit Singh and SUO Diksha efficiently led the cadets in coordinating with battalion officials to organise the function. Dr. Karanbir Singh ANO NCC said that we should remember the sacrifices of the martyrs. On this occasion, NCC Cadets were also present.
