Odisha CM urges new police officers to uphold justice, shun corruption

Bhubaneswar, Sep 4 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday urged the state police officers to make proper use of the authority vested in their uniform by the Constitution of India to ensure justice for the weaker sections of society.

The Chief Minister was speaking the convocation ceremony of the 13th batch of Cadet Sub-Inspectors (SIs) held at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

During the programme, CM Majhi extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the 336 newly appointed Cadet Sub-Inspectors who successfully completed two years of rigorous indoor and outdoor training.

Expressing happiness over the inclusion of 70 women SIs in the batch, the Chief Minister said that it was a bright reflection of women's empowerment and the changing social landscape of Odisha.

Addressing the convocation ceremony, the Chief Minister said, "Today is not merely a ceremonial parade, but a celebration of dedication, discipline, sacrifice, and excellence. A police's outfit is not just uniform; it carries the power conferred by the Constitution and the grave responsibility of serving the society. Every officer must properly utilise the authority granted by the uniform to deliver justice to the weaker sections of society."

Calling upon the Odisha Police to adopt the SMART POLICING policy to make the force more efficient, the Chief Minister gave three mantras to the newly appointed officers during convocation ceremony on Friday.

CM Majhi advised that the officers, guided by the state government's 'zero tolerance' policy, must completely stay away from corruption, maintain the highest discipline in the uniform service, and refrain from misusing power.

He said that the police officers should ensure that the innocents are protected and criminals are punished according to the law.

"Remain vigilant so that no criminal escapes and not a single innocent person is harassed, and work with the mantra of 'Service and Security'," CM Majhi directed the officers.

Stating that industrialisation and law and order are indispensable to building a prosperous Odisha (Samruddha Odisha) over the next ten years, the Chief Minister also stressed on the modernisation and human resource development of the police department.

He said that 17,794 new posts have been created in the police department and 5,817 posts were also filled during the last two years.

Vehicles and fuel allowances were also being provided to improve the functioning of police stations, he added.

He reiterated that the state government is committed to transforming Odisha into a 'drug-free state' by 2029.

During the convocation ceremony, the Chief Minister felicitated the cadets who had excelled in various fields.

Several senior Odisha Police officers, including Director General of Police Vinaytosh Mishra, were also present at the occasion.
