Nissing/Karnal, September 24, 2026: HIRD Director Dr Virender Singh Chauhan reviewed the ODF Plus verification process at Singhra village in Nissing block, stressing that sanitation must go beyond open-defecation-free status to promote sustainable rural development.
During the visit, Chauhan said ODF Plus aims to make villages clean, healthy and sustainable by turning sanitation into a lasting community practice. He emphasised that awareness and active public participation are key to achieving sustained change.
The verification covered the availability and use of individual and community toilets, solid and liquid waste management, wastewater disposal, cleanliness of streets and public places, waste segregation and other sanitation facilities.
Resource persons Sanjeev Kumar and Narayan Dutt interacted with villagers and assessed sanitation arrangements and community participation. Sarpanch Kamaljeet Kaur said the panchayat was working continuously to improve cleanliness, while Gram Secretary Ajay said regular maintenance and public awareness were being prioritised.
Officials and villagers were urged to maintain sanitation facilities and work collectively to meet ODF Plus standards.
