Karnal, September 26, 2026: Gram Sabhas to be held across the country on October 2 will serve as platforms for the Centre’s ‘Reform Utsav’, bringing information on key governance reforms and welfare initiatives directly to rural communities.
The campaign, being coordinated by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, will involve six other central ministries and will be linked with Gram Sabhas convened for preparing the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) under the theme ‘Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas’.
Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), Dr Virender Singh Chauhan, said the initiative aims to make Gram Sabhas more than forums for preparing local development plans. Officials from departments concerned with rural development will brief villagers on recent reforms, government schemes and their direct benefits.
He said states have been asked to ensure participation of relevant departmental officials in the October 2 meetings, while feedback and suggestions from villagers will also be recorded and considered.
Dr Chauhan said the initiative seeks to strengthen people’s participation in governance by connecting grassroots feedback with the reform process and creating a bridge between policy, reforms and local development.
He urged villagers to participate actively in the October 2 Gram Sabhas, seek information on government schemes and place their development priorities and suggestions before the village assembly.
