Obeetee creating equal opportunities by highlighting the skills of women weavers

New Delhi: Obeetee started its journey 100 year ago and today is the one of the largest and the oldest hand woven rug companies in the world. OBEETEE strives for societal betterment with its commitment towards women empowerment. The brand believes that by developing a skilled workforce, they can contribute towards the economic advancement of the nation. The CSR vision is to improve the quality of life for all our communities through integrated and sustainable development in every possible way.

Weavers are the cornerstone of the Carpet industry and Obeetee places a great deal of focus and responsibility on our contribution not only to our weavers but also to their families and community. Women, being a part of this community need to be equally acknowledged for their skills in this craft.

Despite being a traditionally male dominated profession, Obeetee has been helping train ‎women since 2014 in rug weaving. During the initial years of this program, Obeetee simultaneously worked on creating awareness among the villagers & the weaving community to extend to women weavers the respect & dignity every person deserves.

Angelique Dhama, Chief Marketing Officer, OBEETEE said, “As a brand OBEETEE offers equal opportunities to its workforce and strongly believes that each individual should be respected, encouraged and empowered irrespective of their gender. With this as it’s ethos, Obeetee started the women weaving centers in 2014 as a testament to create equal opportunities (in what was previously a male - driven craft).”

In the current times, Obeetee has trained 1383 women till date, out of which around 900 are already working in the workforce. The women training centers train women in rug weaving technique, where they earn a daily stipend for the entire training duration of 3 months. The incentive is lucrative for women fold who learn a new craft whilst taking care of household responsibilities.
