Chandigarh July 24, 2025: In a celebration of nature and well-being, the Department of Microbial Biotechnology (DMBT) at Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with BioNEST, the E-YUVA Centre and the Horticulture Wing of PU, today organised a vibrant and meaningful Plantation Drive under the inspiring theme “Planting Hope, Cultivating Care”. The initiative was held as a part of the national Vanmahotsav,2025 celebrations and to honour the global observance of International Self-Care Day.
The Plantation Drive was inaugurated with a ceremonious planting of saplings by Prof. Rohit Sharma, Chairperson of DMBT and various faculty members. He addressed the gathering, stating, “Today, as we plant these saplings, we are not merely investing in the future of our environment, but also in the well-being of each and every one of us. A thriving ecosystem is integral to our own health—clean air, water, and a balanced natural environment are vital to achieving holistic self-care.
The event garnered overwhelming support and participation from students, researchers, faculty members, and university staff, each of whom eagerly planted the saplings which were a diverse mix of native species, including Casuarina trees, Duranta, Pentas, Syngonium, and Pilea, all carefully selected for their environmental benefits such as enhancing air quality, improving soil stability, attracting pollinators and adding aesthetic value to landscapes.
The students pledged to take care of the planted saplings as a step towards embracing responsibility and nurturing environment.
