Ludhiana, October 16, 2019: NSS volunteers of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana in collaboration with Police Station, Model Town, Ludhiana organized a plantation drive to mark Van Mahotsav celebrations.
Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal inaugurated the campaign by planting the saplings of fruit trees & shady trees in the college campus. She called for more vigorous efforts to combat the threat of global warming and climate change by way of tree planting programme with the active participation of the students. She encouraged the volunteers to plant more trees and take care of their plantation and added that every day should be treated as Van Mahotsav. Hundred saplings of the native species of trees like Neem, Sheesham, Dharek, Jamun, Sukhchain and Amla were distributed to the students. Faculty members and nearly hundred volunteers of the college planted saplings in the college.
NSS volunteers also paid tributes to departed young officers of the Indian Police Services who made a rich contribution in the fight against terrorism in Punjab. Essay writing competition and poster making competitions were also organized. In essay writing competition Jasleen Kaur, Ridham and Swati bagged first, second and third prizes respectively. Kawaljeet Kaur, Mansimran Kaur and Gurjeet Kaur clinched first, second and third prize in Poster making competition respectively.
