UN International Day of Non-Violence being celebrated by NSS unit I & II of GNDU, Amritsar.
Amritsar, October 2, 2015: The National Service Scheme unit I & II of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar celebrated the UN International Day of Non-Violence. To commemorate the 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti), Gandhi’s path of ahimsa
and the NSS theme of the day (From Non-Violence to Humanity), a Rally was organized which was flagged by Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Dean Student Welfare. The programme was organized on 01st October 2015 at the Guru Nanak Bhavan, GNDU, Amritsar. The NSS UNIT I & II also celebrated the Swatch Bharat Campaign which coincided with the birthday of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Dean Student Welfare was the chief guest on the occasion. He highlighted upon the virtues of non-violence and said that its relevance has increased by manifold as world over there has been rise in violence because of different reasons. It is the duty of every global citizen to make efforts in their respective manners for inculcating the virtues of non-violence across the world. The celebration of the day served the purpose of motivating and sensitizing the students for the large cause of humanity. Prof. Sidhu encouraged the students for actively participating in the out-door activities of the NSS. Reflecting through his life experiences he highlighted the importance of social service and how little efforts of volunteers can create wonders in the lives of others
Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Dr. Bimaldeep Singh, Programme Officers of UNIT I and II respectively coordinated the programme. Events like Poster Preparations, Slogan Writing, and Quiz Competition was held.
Declaration of Slogan & Quiz Results & Prize Distribution was also done by the Chief Guest. Students were also administered Pledge of the Day. Dr. Bimaldeep Singh proposed Vote of thanks to Guests. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
