NSS, Panjab University Commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas with Marathon and Anti-Drug Campaign
To mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services, Sector 42, Chandigarh, organised a Marathon at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, July 25, 2025: To mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services, Sector 42, Chandigarh, organised a Marathon at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from as many as 120 NSS volunteers representing 11 districts of Punjab and the Panjab University Campus.
PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasised the critical role NSS volunteers play in national development and quoted the inspiring line: “स्वयं सजें, वसुन्धरा संवार दें” (If we improve ourselves, we can shape the world). He paid rich tributes to the Kargil Martyrs and lauded the bravery of Indian Forces against all odds in the Kargil War.
The event, organised in the guidance of PU NSS Programme Coordinator Dr. Parveen Goyal and NSS Programme Officer Dr. Sonia Sharma, commenced with the plantation of a Sindoor plant as part of Mission Sindoor, symbolising growth, sacrifice, and remembrance. All distinguished guests and volunteers paid floral tribute to the martyrs in a solemn ceremony.
A special pledge ceremony was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Verma as part of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, reinforcing the university’s commitment to a drug-free and ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Many senior PU faculty members, including Prof. Anil Monga, Prof. Prashant Gautam, Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Manoj, and Dr. Ruchi, also graced the event with their presence, showing strong institutional support for youth engagement initiatives.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Parveen Goyal motivated the youth by stating, “When our youth are free from drug abuse, our nation will become joyful and healthy.”
