Chandigarh, October 17, 2025: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Panjab University marked the beginning of Diwali celebrations with a vibrant yet eco-conscious initiative, celebrating a Green Diwali to promote the message of a cracker-free and environmentally sustainable festival.

A large number of NSS students actively took part in the event, making it a vibrant and meaningful celebration that echoed the spirit of Diwali without contributing to pollution or noise. The event, organised under the guidance of Programme Coordinator Dr Parveen Goyal and programme Officer Dr. Vibhuti Nakta, witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers who created intricate and colorful Rangoli designs symbolizing peace, harmony, and environmental awareness.

The celebration was graced by distinguished faculty members including Prof. Vandana Arora (Chairperson, Department of Laws), Prof. Supinder Kaur, and Prof. Jyoti Rattan, along with several other faculty members and students. 

Speaking at the occasion, the dignitaries appreciated the initiative taken by NSS volunteers and emphasised the importance of adopting sustainable practices in everyday life, especially during festivals. The event reflected the core values of the NSS – community service, environmental awareness, and youth engagement.
